4-Year-Old Left Home Alone With Loaded Handguns

CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – A Montgomery County woman was cited after leaving her young children at home alone with two loaded weapons in the residence – one within the child's reach.

Officials with the Clarksville Police Department said they responded to a house on Doane Drive around 10:10 p.m. Friday where a 4-year-old child was crying.

They found the child crying on the front porch.

When the officer looked inside the house, he found a loaded .380-caliber handgun on a living room table. He also found a loaded .45-caliber handgun on top of the refrigerator.

About 15 minutes after police arrived on scene, the child's mother, 31-year-old Shera Stoner, returned home. Stoner told the officer she had been at a neighbor's house and believed the child to be asleep.

When asked about the loaded weapons, Stoner reportedly told police the child had never played with the weapons before and she believed they were not a problem.

Stoner was cited for reckless endangerment.
