CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – A Clarksville woman was arrested after police were called out to investigate reports of a young child wandering around a large apartment building parking lot.
The incident happened Friday around 7:45 p.m. at the River Wood Apartments off Ashland City Road.
Officials said the 7-year-old boy could not find his home among the apartments. When officers arrived on scene, neighbors recognized the boy and were able to tell police where the boy lived.
Police said the apartment door was unlocked. As they investigated, they found an infant asleep in a back bedroom.
The mother, 28-year-old Jennifer Waller, returned home around 9:20 p.m. She told police she had gone to the store.
Shortly after Waller returned home, the father of one of the children came to the residence. Police said he smelled like he had been smoking marijuana.
Both children were turned over to the custody of the Division of Children's Services.
Waller was arrested and booked into the Montgomery County Jail on two charges of child abuse/neglect. Bail was set at $500.
