NASHVILLE, Tenn.- Heavy rains soaked the mid-state bring flash flooding across the area hitting some cities on the Cumberland Plateau particularly hard.
Over six inches of rain was reported to have fallen Monday saturating the ground and closing many local roads. Police said several drivers had to be rescued from their cars after trying to cross water covered roads and getting trapped.
In Overton County, officials were forced to closed schools for Tuesday morning. A viewer sent in a photo of a gas station in Smithville where water reached nearly up to the stores windows.
