NASHVILLE, Tenn. – A registered sex offender, on the run for seven months, has been taken back into custody and put behind bars.
Jerry Haney, age 36, was convicted of sexual battery in 1995 when he was 19 years old. Officials said he stopped reporting to his probation officer in February.
Haney also failed to update his personal information to the state's sex offender registry.
Investigators said Haney had torn off his GPS ankle monitor so police could not find him. He had listed himself as homeless, so police did not have a residential address where they could check on him.
Haney's GPS tracking device was found underneath a pile of dirt back in March.
Police did not say how they found him, but they took Haney back into custody Tuesday afternoon. He was booked into the Davidson County Criminal Justice Center.
Haney pulled the same stunt in 2008 and in 2011 and both times was charged with violating the Sexual Offender Registration and Tracking Act
Officials said Haney now faces additional charges of removing his tracking device and failing to register his whereabouts.
Police want to find out where Haney has been since he stopped reporting in. Anyone with information should contact the Metro Nashville Police Department.
