NASHVILLE, Tenn.- A 17-year-old Hillsboro High School student was shot and killed inside his home in North Nashville.
The call came into police dispatch a little after 3 p.m. Wednesday at a home on Vanderhorst Drive, just off Whites Creek Pike. Police identified the victim as 17-year-old Demarcus Jordan-Ellis, a senior at Hillsboro High School.
"Demarcus was a great young man, involved in church and sometimes I just think he run with the wrong individuals and I think that's what the situation is," said Tee Jordan, the victim's cousin.
Jordan said her cousin attended church every Sunday and was an aspiring musician.
"He comes from a loving and caring family with a great mother and father and a younger brother," Jordan said.
Police said that a neighbor saw Jordan-Ellis walking on the street Wednesday afternoon and told him there was a gold car parked in his driveway.
"The victim indicated that he knew who was in the gold car, he walked back to the house, evidently let them inside as he came inside and shortly there after the shots were fired," said Metro Police spokesman Don Aaron.
The gold colored sedan was seen leaving the scene after shots were fired.
Soon after a neighbor went to check on the commotion inside the house and discovered Jordan-Ellis covered in blood with several gunshot wounds. The teen had already died.
His family gathered outside the home as police investigated the murder. The heartache there was apparent, and so was the anger.
"We got to get our kids back and tell the dope man and the gang bangers they don't have our kids, we have our kids," Tee Jordan told reporters.
A neighbor three doors down said in his 54 years living in that neighborhood he has never seen anything like this on his street. The pastor was at a loss as to what can be done to curb the violence.
"Really, there's just so much we can do, and there's so much that a higher power, the Lord has to do," said Pastor Grant Stevenson.
