MTSU Opens New Student Union Building

MURFREESBORO, Tenn.- Officials at Middle Tennessee State University have officially opened the school's long awaited new Student Union Building.

A ribbon cutting ceremony was held Wednesday to celebrate the news $65 million, 211,000-square-foot building. MTSU leaders hope that the new building will increase student involvement on campus.

"Thanks to our great student body we now have an incredible place to gather on our campus and live the college experience that every student dreams of when they envision the college life," said Coby Sherlock, the Student Government President.

The new building comes complete a 640-seat food court and 102-seat casual-dining restaurant; an 840-seat ballroom; student government, the Center for Student Involvement and Leadership and other offices as well as the campus bookstore.

The 45-year-old former student union, known as the KUC will remain open, but staffers hope the new student center will become the go-to place for students, faculty, staff and visitors.
