Posted: Updated:

CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – A person of interest has been named in the fatal shooting of a man found lying in the street in Montgomery County.

Detectives with the Clarksville Police Department said they have been looking for Danyon LyDell Dowlen, and believe he may still be somewhere in the city.

Dowlen was already wanted on other charges, and police said they considered him armed and dangerous.

Officers responded to the area near Reynolds Street and Dodd Street in Clarksville Tuesday evening after responding to a call of several shots fires.

They found 50-year-old Charles Sims on the ground with a gun in his hand and suffering from several gunshots.

Witnesses told police Sims and Dowlen were both engaged in a gun fight in the location where Sims was found. The confrontation was apparently over a woman.

According to police, Dowlen had assaulted Sims in the past.

Sims was transported by LifeFlight medical helicopter to Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville where he later died from his injuries.
