CHARLESTON, Tenn. (AP) - A contract worker for the state and the driver of a tractor-trailer rig have died in a crash that also injured a state trooper.

The crash early Monday morning shut down the northbound lanes of Interstate 75.

Dalya Qualls of the Tennessee Department of Safety and Homeland Security said the contract worker was performing work for the Tennessee Department of Transportation at mile marker 34 near the Bradley-McMinn County line.

Qualls said the worker was out of the work truck when the big truck crashed into the back of it, driving the work truck forward into the rear of the THP cruiser.

Investigators said the trucker and the worker were killed. The trooper was taken to Athens Regional Medical Center with injuries that were not life-threatening. Names weren't immediately released.
