Loretta Lynn Honored For 50th Opry Anniversary

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Country music icon Loretta Lynn was honored by the Grand Ole Opry for 50 years as a member.

The coal miner's daughter became a member of the Opry back in 1962. To celebrate the star's golden achievement, the Opry planned a star-packed show including performances from Miranda Lambert, Pistol Annies, Crystal Gayle, and Lee Ann Womack.

Lynn was born in Butcher Holler, Kentucky in 1932 and became a country sensation with her 1960 hit "Honky Tonk Girl." Over the years, Lynn has topped the country charts over and over, having more than 60 hits as a solo artist and 18 memorable duets with starts like Ernest Tubb and Conway Twitty.

She was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame in 1988 and was also the first woman to win the Entertainer of the Year Award of the Country Music Association. She was later honored with an induction into the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 2008.

Lynn lives at her home in Hurricane Mills, Tennessee, which is about an two hours outside Nashville.
