NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) - Vanderbilt has sanctioned its women's tennis and lacrosse teams after finding members of both teams were involved in separate hazing incidents.
Athletics director David Williams said in a statement Wednesday that hazing is dangerous, violates both university and athletic department policy and will not be tolerated.
Vanderbilt said no one was harmed.
But Williams and Vanderbilt's director of compliance interviewed each member of each team late last week with all but one admitting to taking part. Williams says neither team's coach knew of the events and may punish their players further. Williams also reported the incidents to university officials overseeing student conduct.
The sanctions included missing an event each. The lacrosse team did not attend an exhibition tournament at Navy, while the tennis team missed a preview tournament at Furman.
