Columbia Prepares For Southern Fried Festival

COLUMBIA, Tenn.- Residents in Columbia are getting ready for the 17th Annual Southern Fried Festival that starts this weekend.

Named one of the Top 20 Events in September by the Southeastern Tourism Society, the event seems to get better and better each year. The festival runs from 5 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. Friday night on the public square in Downtown Columbia and continues all day Saturday.

Admission for the festival is $3 and children under ten get in for free. Organizers have included numerous events like the Jailbreak Triathlon, the annual Cooking Contest and a fan favorite: the Scarecrow Contest. In that contest residents are encouraged to bring in old clothes and unique items to create a special scarecrow in hopes of winning $100 for first place.

In addition to the activities planned, festival goer will be treated to two great nights of music with bands including the Alabama Blues Brothers, Restless Heart and the Grascals.
