500 Pinwheels Promote Peace In Hopkinsville

Posted: Updated:

HOPKINSVILLE, Ky. (AP) - Nearly 500 student-made pinwheels are perched on the grounds of a Hopkinsville elementary school in the hopes of sending a message of peace.

The students at Indian Hills Elementary School each designed and created the pinwheels themselves under the direction of art teacher Sasha Kelley.

Kelley told the Kentucky New Era that she placed each one in the ground herself but the effort was worth it.

Indian Hills Elementary School is near the Fort Campbell army post on the Kentucky-Tennessee line.

Kelley said she told the students to keep three things in mind while making the pinwheels. Those things were peace at home, peace with friends and peace at school.
