WILSON COUNTY, Tenn.- A West Elementary school student in Wilson County has died after what officials said was a brief battle with bacterial meningitis.
Officials from the school confirmed that the 9-year-old child died Friday morning. Schools Security Director David Burton said that the student passed away from bacterial meningitis, but no other details were released.
School leaders said that they have been in contact with the Center for Disease Control and were advised that there was no health risk to anyone at the school. The school said that no preventative medication was necessary for those had been in contact with the student.
The child's name was not released.
