NASHVILLE, Tenn. - A mother and her 4-year-old child were hurt in a crash on Sunday night.

Police said the 34-year-old Gina Elkins was driving a Chevrolet Silverado pickup eastbound on Old Hickory Boulevard near Granny White Pike when the vehicle left the roadway and struck a tree head-on just before 7:30 p.m.

Elkins suffered non-life threatening injuries, but her 4-year-old daughter, Addlyn Elkins, was critically injured. Both were transported to Vanderbilt University Medical Center.

Addlyn Elkins was seat-belted in a booster seat behind the driver's seat. Elkins reported that she was not familiar with the pickup truck and was attempting to find the controls for the windshield wipers when she lost control.

Police said there was no evidence of alcohol or drug involvement at the scene.
