NWS Says Tornadoes Touched Down In Wilson, Smith Counties

WILSON COUNTY, Tenn. – The National Weather Service has confirmed that two tornadoes touched down in Middle Tennessee on Monday night.

Officials said an EF-0 tornado, with winds estimated at 85 miles per hour, touched down in Statesville in Wilson County. There was some damage to a mobile home occurred, several sheds were destroyed, and many trees were blown down.

A second EF-0 tornado touched down about 20 minutes later near the Grant community in Smith County. It had estimated winds of 75 mph.

Several tornado watches and warnings were issued Monday as severe thunderstorms crossed the Middle Tennessee area.

In Lebanon, the heavy rains caused flash flooding in areas, including Maple and Spring Street. Local authorities temporarily shut down several roads in the area as a precaution.
