OAK RIDGE, Tenn. (AP) -- The security contractor at a nuclear weapons plant in Oak Ridge has been fired after an unprecedented intrusion by three peace activists.
WSI Oak Ridge, a subsidiary of Palm Beach Gardens, Fla.-based G4S Government Solutions Inc., announced Monday that it will transfer its protective force functions to B&W Y-12, the managing contractor at the plant, over the next several weeks.
The security contractor has been criticized for its poor response when three activists -- including an 82-year-old nun -- broke into the plant in July. They cut through fences and defaced a building that stored the plant's uranium.
After the intrusion, top officials at WSI and B&W were removed from their positions.
