Officers Nearly Hit By Car As Suspects Try To Flee

NASHVILLE, Tenn.- A Metro officer was nearly hit by a car after a suspect allegedly tried to get away.
Police said they approached a suspect on Lewis Street Monday night, when 19-year-old Jovonte Fitzgerald threw his Chevrolet Malibu in reverse attempting to flee as three other men jumped into the car. Fitzgerald nearly hit three Metro Police officers standing in the area, before crashing into a patrol car.
Police arrested Fitzgerald, as well as front seat passenger, Raymond Wilson III, 22 and a third passenger William Oden. When officers searched the car they found two handguns, 60 grams of crack cocaine, 25 grams of marijuana and $2,668 cash.
Fitzgerald was charged with four counts of aggravated assault against a police officer, cocaine and marijuana possession in a drug-free school zone, felon in possession of a handgun, evading arrest, resisting arrest, leaving the scene of a property damage accident and driving on a suspended license. Police said he had two previous felony drug possession convictions and was being held in lieu of $213,000 bond.
The other two men in the car, Wilson and Oden were charged with marijuana and cocaine possession in a drug-free school zone and felon in possession of a handgun. Oden also had previous convictions for cocaine possession and evading arrest, was being held in lieu of $90,000 bond. Wilson was being held on a $97,000 bond.
