Search On For Woman Accused Of Running Pill Mill

Posted: Updated:

MARYVILLE, Tenn. (AP) -- A former Maryville pain clinic owner accused of running a pill mill is on the lam.

According to the U.S. Marshals Service, Tamral "Tammy" Guzman was free on her own recognizance while facing drug charges in federal court. When she failed to show up Tuesday morning for trial, a warrant was issued for her arrest.

Marshals are actively searching for her.

Guzman was the owner of Maryville Pain Management Consultants, which federal drug agents shut down in December 2010.

Prosecutors claim Guzman was raking in cash payments of up to $28,000 per day to prescribe powerful painkillers.

Guzman has said she put her trust in nurse practitioners she employed and the doctors who supervised them.

She is charged with operating a pill mill and trading cash for prescriptions and painkillers.
