Family Wants More Police Involvement In Murder Case

Posted: Updated:

WOODBURY, Tenn. - Woodbury residents are searching for answers in the case of a man found shot to death inside his home earlier this week, and said they don't feel authorities are doing everything they can to help them.

Joseph Kenneth Gooch or "Kenny,"as most people liked to call him, was found dead by his  mother inside his home on C.L. Berrett Road. Gooch was 55-years-old.

"He had been shot in the chest and whenever she walked in to check on him that he was laying there in a pool of blood, dead," said Jerry Barrett, who lives across the street.

He said he was close to Kenny and has no idea why anyone would want to kill him. He said the day before Kenny died he went to check on him in the middle of the day and he never came to the door.

"Kenny, he was a good guy, he wouldn't hurt nobody. I mean he just got done bush hogging this field next door and I talked to him the day before," said Barrett.

Family members said they are frustrated by the lack of a lead in the case, and said they feel they've been kept out of the loop by police.

Police said the murder is under investigation. Family members said they were told to stay away from the crime scene because detectives are planning on coming back. Authorities want to get finger prints and collect more evidence, but it's been three days since Kenny died and the family said no one has been back yet.

A detective with the Sheriff's department said that crews are still investigating Gooch's death and an autopsy is currently in progress.

The victim's family said Kenny was living with a girlfriend and she was in the process of moving out. Police didn't elaborate on whether or not she is a suspect.

They don't have anyone in custody at this time.
