NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP/NewsChannel 5) - Monday is the last day to register to vote in Tennessee.
Even though it's Columbus Day, state officials said elections offices will be open in all but two of the state's 95 counties.
They will be closed in Lewis and Hickman Counties, but residents there can bring their forms to a neighboring county to be registered.
Workers said they aren't
seeing the same volume of voters as the last elections, but they have been
ready to handle it all the same.
"I have talked to the
staff and what they have told me is that it is not nearly as busy as it was in
'08. Apparently in '08 on this day, they were lined up out the door and around
the block," said Administrator of Elections Albert Tieche.
Once you register, the
election commission said you should be in the system in time for early voting.
Early voting begins on October 17 and runs through November 1. Election Day is November 6.
Voters will need government-issued photo identification to cast ballots under a new state law.
