NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Crews had to clean up nails that were spilled on Interstate 40 west on Wednesday morning.
It happened just before 10 a.m. just before the Spence Lane exit. There was no word on what cause the nails to spill.
Tennessee Department of Transportation officials said there was a mile-long back-up while drivers waited for workers
to clear up the mess. Crews used special magnetized
brooms to sweep up the nails.
The person responsible for the mess was never located.
"I would assume that the person that dropped them
would've stopped, but evidently they just kept going. There was also a big piece of plywood, some
roofing vents, just a lotta stuff in the street that we had to get out," said Robert Lawrence, TDOT Crew Member.
Crews said that no drivers have reported any flat tires as result of the spill. The scene was cleared just before noon.
