NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Health officials have confirmed that the first human case of the West Nile Virus has been reported in Davidson County.
Officials said the infected individual lives in the Antioch area, but no other details about the case were being released.
At least three other batches of test mosquitoes from the local area have also tested positive for the disease. The West Nile Virus has also been confirmed in test batches from mosquitoes in Antioch, Goodlettsville, Hermitage, Madison, North Nashville, and South Nashville.
Pest Management staff captured the infected mosquitoes in the following specific areas:
- Near the intersection of Myatt Drive and Anderson Lane in Madison.
- Near the intersection of Apache Trail and Packard Drive in Antioch
- Near the intersection of Lebanon Road and Old Hickory Blvd. in Hermitage
According to health department officials the Pest Management staff has increased trapping efforts in the areas where the mosquitoes tested positive. Staff also plans to continue to monitor standing water in the area and apply larvicide when mosquito larvae are present.
