ATLANTA, Ga.- According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the nationwide number of cases has increased to 64 in nine states, and seven people have died.

Minnesota and Ohio are the two latest states to report confirmed cases linked to a steroid produced by a specialty pharmacy in Massachusetts. This type of meningitis is not contagious. The steroid has been recalled, and now there's speculation the company broke several laws when making the drug.

The steroid has been recalled, and health officials have been scrambling to notify anyone who may have been injected with it.

Health investigators say there may be hundreds of people exposed to the rare fungal meningitis who haven't come down with symptoms yet.
