Mysterious Rash Sickens Five People In Coffee County
by Chris Conte
COFFEE COUNTY, Tenn. - Health officials in Coffee County are trying to figure out if something from the Coffee County fair caused at least five people to become sickened with a mysterious rash over the last few weeks.
"It was burning, it felt like my skin was just on fire," says Teresa Katro who developed the rash known as "red rage" just a day after visiting the fair.
Teresa says the rash covered her from head to toe and even high dose antibiotics weren't working. Eventually she had to go to the emergency room at United Regional Medical Center where the doctor on-call said, "He just goes, 'you're the fourth one in here from the fair,' he was like, it was the fair that did it," she explained.
No one from the Coffee County fairgrounds was available to comment Tuesday.
State health officials say they are now looking into the cases.
Teresa just wants to figure out the source of what caused her rash so she can avoid getting it again.
