LAWRENCE COUNTY, Tenn. – Two 17-year-old girls were killed in a crash in
Lawrence County on Wednesday night.
The Tennessee Highway
Patrol said Rianna L. Watson was driving a SUV on Old
Florence Pulaski Highway around 6 p.m. Wednesday when she crossed the
center line, and hit a box truck head-on.
Watson died on the scene. Her
passenger, 17-year-old Tanna Pesnell, was taken by LifeFlight to Vanderbilt
University Medical Center in Nashville, where she later passed away.
According to Facebook, Pesnell had recently been awarded Homecoming Queen at her high school.
The driver of the box
truck, which was carrying 50 pounds of dog food, was not injured.
Officials continue to
investigate what caused Watson to cross the center line, but said they believed
speed was a factor. All involved were wearing their seatbelts.
No charges were filed.
