PORTLAND, Tenn.- A high school football coach has been arrested and charged with assault after hitting a player.
Officials with the Portland Police Department said that Coach George Michael Coley got upset that several players were in the office that he shares with head football Coach Traye Aric Thursday afternoon. The students told police that they tried to tell Coley that Coach Aric had invited them into the office.
When one student made a comment, Coley became enraged and shoved the student backwards onto a table and then put his hands around the student's throat. Other students told police that Coley shouted obscenities at the students after the incident then left the room.
Coley was arrested and charged with one count of assault. Bond was set at $1,000 and a court date was set for October 24, 2012.
