MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) - Police said Memphis musician B.B. Cunningham, who played with Jerry Lee Lewis and scored a hit with "Let it All Hang Out" with his own band the Hombres, was trying to help a fellow security guard when he was killed in a shootout.
Memphis police said the 70-year-old Cunningham, a security guard at an apartment complex, died early Sunday.
Police said a 16-year-old boy and a 22-year-old man had fired shots at another security guard at the complex when Cunningham responded.
Cunningham chased them into another apartment complex. When the second guard arrived, he found Cunningham and the teen lying in a courtyard.
A police news release does not say who shot Cunningham or the 16-year-old.
The Commercial Appeal reported the arrest of 22-year-old Dock Britt, who was charged with first-degree murder and criminal attempted first-degree murder. His bond had not been set early Monday and further details of the shooting were not yet available.
