MOUNDSVILLE, W.Va. (AP) - The former West Virginia Penitentiary attracts many out-of-state visitors who take historic and haunted tours of the old prison.
But one visitor has a different reason for making the trip to Moundsville.
James Tiller was sentenced to the penitentiary when he was 19 for his involvement in a shooting in Mingo County. He served two years there.
Tiller returned to the old prison on Sunday to take a tour and look back at his life. Now an attorney in Nashville, Tenn., Tiller told WTOV-TV that his transformation has been astounding.
He also said the prison was "a very macabre environment." But inmates didn't talk about it being haunted because they were dealing with real life situations that were bad enough.
