Suspect Shot By Deputy Was 30-Year-Old Clinton Man

Posted: Updated:

CLINTON, Tenn. (AP) - Authorities have identified a man shot and killed as he struggled with an Anderson County sheriff's deputy.

The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation said Monday the man was 30-year-old Randall Kyle Wilcox of Clinton.

Anderson County authorities said Wilcox was trying to take the officer's weapon when the deputy fired, killing him.

The Knoxville News Sentinel reported the sheriff's office declined to release the name of the deputy.

Authorities said the deputy had signaled for Wilcox to stop his car at about 10:30 Saturday morning on three outstanding arrest warrants.

Sheriff Paul White said Wilcox ran and when the deputy caught him, a struggle ensued and the suspect got the deputy's pistol out of his holster before he was shot.
