One Person Seriously Injured In Head-On Collision On I-40E

Posted: Updated:

WILSON COUNTY, Tenn. – One person was critically injured in a head-on collision between a car and a tractor trailer on Interstate 40 eastbound in Wilson County on Thursday morning.

It happened around 6:40 a.m. at mile marker 246, past Linwood Road. A car in the westbound lanes crossed the median, and struck a semi truck in the eastbound lanes head-on.

Twenty-two year old Brian Haston from Cookeville was taken by LifeFlight to Vanderbilt University Medical Center for treatment of his injuries.  Haston was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash, according to the Tennessee Highway Patrol.

Witnesses told officers that Haston's car crossed the median on I-40 and and ran underneath the edge of the tractor trailer, knocking off the vehicle's back axle on impact.

The driver of the tractor trailer was not injured.

The interstate was blocked for hours, but re-opened around noon.
