NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) -- The Vanderbilt Commodores will open the 2013 season in Nashville against Mississippi rather than on the road at Ohio State.
Vanderbilt officials released a new 2013 schedule Thursday along with the Southeastern Conference revising league games for the season as a way for teams to bridge while they work out a better system for conference games.
Ohio State had been set to open 2013 against Vanderbilt on Aug. 31. Vanderbilt also has replaced Northwestern, an opponent set for Sept. 14 when the Commodores will be visiting South Carolina on that date.
Athletics director David Williams said in a statement the new league schedule meant Vandy had to rework its non-conference schedule to avoid league conflicts.
Vandy's non-conference opponents in 2013 now will be Austin Peay, Massachusetts, UAB and Wake Forest.
