Giles County Released Details Of State Audit

Posted: Updated:

GILES COUNTY, Tenn.- State auditors have completed an audit of Giles County finances after the Giles County Schools Superintendent was forced out over budget issues.

Before school started for the 2012-2013 school year Giles County school officials had to lay off dozens of people because they just didn't have the money in the bank to pay them.

State auditors said the bookkeeping was a major concern during the budget process for the 2011-2012 year. Officials also said that during the course of the year schools spent approximately a $3 million more than they took in.

The Comptroller's Office said Giles County has an audit committee which will now review the findings and work with officials to correct the problems.
