NASHVILLE, Tenn. - A woman was taken to the hospital after her home was destroyed by fire in North Nashville.
Witnesses said they heard the fire trucks around 1:30 a.m. Saturday morning on 9th Avenue North, near Garfield Street. When neighbors went outside to see what was going on, they saw heavy fire and smoke coming from the windows.
"I seen a whole lot of smoke coming out of the ceiling and the sides of the house. All the doors were wide open and the walls were just crumbling down, crumbling like plastic," said Brenda, one of the neighbors.
Fortunately the woman was not burned but she was taken to Baptist Hospital for smoke inhalation. Firefighters said she is going to be okay. Neighbors said the woman who lived here was alone.
Fire officials believe the fire started in the living room because of the condition of her couch after the fire was out.
The Red Cross will be providing some assistance to help her get back on her feet.
