MOUNT JULIET, Tenn.- A retired Wilson County woman has taken on the task of helping local police officers comfort young children involved in traumatic situations.
On Wednesday, Mollie Barr dropped off another large donation of stuffed teddy bears at the Mt. Juliet Police Department. For the past several years Barr has been collecting the bears to donate to police. Officers carry the bears in their patrol cars and give them out to children at car crashes, crime scenes and any other time they find a child in need.
"In situations requiring police intervention, they are often traumatic and negative," said Deputy Chief James Hambrick, "Any little bit helps and Mollie's bears will go far in a young child's eyes. Our department is so thankful to have Mollie Barr in our community who wants to make a difference in a child's life.
Barr spends hours collecting the bears as well as dressing them up and getting them in perfect condition for their new owners. Barr said she before she started giving the stuffed animals to police officers, she made them promise to make it their mission to make a difference in a child's life.
