'Paychecks For Patriots' Hiring Fairs Held Thursday
NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Tennessee veterans will have an opportunity to apply for thousands of jobs during the "Paychecks for Patriots" initiative on Thursday.
Job fairs will be held at 13 Tennessee Career Centers across the state, including Chattanooga, Clarksville, Columbia, Cookeville, Crossville, Dyersburg, Jackson, Johnson City, Knoxville, Memphis, Nashville, Talbott and Tullahoma.
The job fair in Nashville starts at 10 a.m. and runs until 2 p.m. at the Tennessee Career Center at 2200 Rosa Parks Boulevard.
The Tennessee Department of Labor partnered with several major employers to fill 4,000 jobs across the state. Governor Haslam even signed a proclamation announcing Thursday as Paychecks for Patriots Day.
The employers at the Nashville fair include AEGIS, Corrections Corporation of America, Dollar General, FedEx, Hospital Corporation of America, iostudio, Metropolitan Nashville Police Department, Nissan, Teach Tennessee, Tennessee Department of Human Resources, Titan Transfer, TN Bureau of Investigation, Vanderbilt, and Verizon Wireless.
The jobs range from entry level to executive positions. This event was specifically created for veterans who typically have a hard time finding a job.
According to the Department Of Labor, the unemployment rate for veterans here in the state is nearly 11 percent, which is much higher than regular unemployment rate.
Veterans may have a hard time finding a job because some of them have never had a job outside of their military service. Also, some may be looking for a private sector job for the very first time.
Employers will have representatives on-site who will be accepting resumes or referring applicants to online applications.
