Photo Credit: Jackson SunJACKSON, Tenn. (AP) - A preliminary report said a Jackson police helicopter that crashed earlier this month suffered a loss of engine power.
Jackson police Deputy Chief Barry Michael told the Jackson Sun on Wednesday that he did not expect to have a final report back for some time.
He said National Transportation Safety Board officials were going over the engine "with a fine-tooth comb" to determine the cause of the failure.
An NTSB preliminary report issued Tuesday said that after the engine failed at 800 feet, the helicopter entered autorotation, or a fall with the rotors spinning.
In the crash, the fuselage and main rotor system were damaged and the tail boom separated.
The pilot and another employee on board suffered only minor injuries.
