Goodlettsville Selects Goodwin as New Chief of Police

Posted: Updated:

GOODLETTSVILLE, Tenn.- Goodlettsville has chosen a new Chief of Police. He'll replace outgoing Chief Richard Pope, who announced his retirement earlier this year.

City Manager Tim Ellis announced Thursday the hiring of Gary Goodwin to fill the top position within the Police Department.  Goodwin has 37 years of law enforcement experience and is currently a Captain with the Metropolitan Nashville Police Department.

"I believe that we have found in Gary a Chief of Police that not only has the professional qualifications, but the personal attributes, demeanor,  interests, and community spirit  that will make him an excellent fit for this very important position in Goodlettsville," said Tim Ellis, Goodlettsville City Manager.

Gary's selection came after a four-month search process done by the city. According to Ellis, there were 81 applications from all across the United States, with 22 of those candidates being from Tennessee.

"The amazing part in conducting a nationwide search is that the most qualified person for the position

has been a resident of the City of Goodlettsville for the past 17 years," Ellis said.

Goodwin has a Bachelor of Science degree from Austin Peay State University and is a graduate of the Federal Bureau of Investigation's National Academy.
