Haslam Honored For Domestic Violence Prevention

Posted: Updated:

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (AP) - Governor Bill Haslam will receive an award for his work to address domestic violence in Tennessee during a luncheon in Knoxville.

The Community Coalition on Family Violence will present the 16th Annual Anita Gregg Memorial awards on Friday. Anita Gregg and her son, Dwayne Kesterson, died as a result of domestic violence in 1996.

The agency said in a news release that this year's award recipients include Haslam for legislative leadership for putting domestic violence front and center during his State of the State address and working to pass mandatory sentences for repeat offenders.

The other recipient is David Kitts from the Knoxville Police Department for his work on the clergy task force and as the domestic violence training coordinator.
