NASHVILLE, Tenn.- A Nashville woman has been charged after police said she intentionally struck a school crossing guard with her car.

Officials arrested 29-year-old Shanikia Word Friday after she struck a school crossing guard with her vehicle on purpose Thursday afternoon at Madison Middle School. Police believe that at first Word bumped the school crossing guard on accident with her car, but after learning that the guard was going to call police witnesses told police that Ward intentionally struck again.

She was charged with aggravated assault and was being held in the Davidson County Jail.

The school crossing guard was not seriously injured, but was transported to Skyline Medical Center for treatment.
