CLARKSVILLE, Tenn.- Police have arrested and charged five men with a shooting at Halloween party that killed two people Saturday.
Officials said that 20-year-old Jecarvin Brown and 21-year-old Jason Lee Rose were killed during a fight at a rented cabin off High Point Road near the Cumberland River.
At least 500 people were at the party that witnesses say quickly got out of control.
"It was crazy because as soon as we touched foot on the grass and we were coming, that's when the gun started going off," said Lamika Witcher, who attended the party.
Emergency responders were called to a rented cabin near High Point Road in Clarksville just before 2 a.m. Several people were shot after witnesses say a fight broke out. Police said witnesses reported seeing a suspect shoot Brown and Rose, and then get into vehicle with several other men and flee the scene.
Investigator Billy Batson of the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office said that officers stopped a car the resembled the witness description of the suspect's vehicle and found two guns inside, one being the same make and type as the shell casings found at the scene. The men driving the car were taken into custody and were interviewed by police.
"After that, it was utter chaos," Batson said, adding that people scattered and attempted to leave, with hundreds being stuck on High Point Road. "Because of the hard work of our team, along with patrol officers, Tennessee Highway Patrol and Clarksville Police Department, we were able to secure the area, interview hundreds of witnesses and gain the information we needed."
This incident comes after another shooting at a house party near Austin Peay State University the week before. No one was killed, but some young adults in the community say they are thinking twice before going to big parties.
"It is getting scary," said Darrion Reddin, a Clarksville High School senior, "it is making it a lot harder for people my age to go out and have a good time."
In connection to the latest incident, police arrested 18-year-old Shakar Donte Drones and charged him with two counts of criminal homicide. His bond was set at $2 million. Four other men were also charged with being accessories to the crime.
Harold Mosquera, 18, Syonee Moore, 22, Andre Nathaniel Adams, 21, and Courtney Nathaniel Hardiman, 19, were all arrested and taken to the Montgomery County Jail.
