Meharry Breaks Ground On New $25M Family Center

Posted: Updated:

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) - A $3 million contribution from the family foundation of Dollar General's former chairman and CEO is helping Meharry Medical College build a new family center.

The college recently broke ground on the 80,000-square-foot facility, which is named after Cal Turner Jr.

The approximately $25 million center is the college's first major construction in about 30 years.

Meharry officials envision it to be a hub for the Nashville community to gather, discuss and collaborate on solutions to healthcare challenges.

The center is part of major renovation and new construction taking place at Meharry over the next two to three years. The center is set to open in 2014.
