NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) - James Franklin will not discuss bowls or even acknowledge knowing what they are during the season. His Vanderbilt Commodores follow their coach's lead no matter how tempting it might be to look ahead to November and start dreaming of what might be ahead.
The Commodores (4-4) have a chance at a November to remember considering only 1 of the final four opponents currently has a winning record. But, this is Vanderbilt where 1982 is the last winning record in the regular season, and that's also the last time the Commodores went undefeated in November.
Junior left tackle Wesley Johnson said Monday bowl talk is "kind of taboo." He says they reached five wins with a few games left last season and finished with six.
Vanderbilt visits Kentucky (1-8) on Saturday.
