RUTHERFORD COUNTY, Tenn. – An investigation is underway after a woman's body was found in a flipped over car that was submerged underwater in a ravine.
A ping to a cell phone helped lead search and rescue workers in Rutherford County to discover the body of 60-year-old Kathy Irvin inside her Chevy Malibu.
The car had flipped and was partially submerged in the Stones River just off East County Farm Road.
Irvin's family had reported her missing more than 12 hours earlier.
Police said there was no evidence of drinking or drug use at the scene, and Irvin was wearing a seatbelt.
Police said it is possible Irvin lost control of the vehicle as the road is very curvy. She may also have had some type of medical emergency behind the wheel that led to the wreck.
Her death marks the 26th fatal wreck in Rutherford County this year.
