Construction Of Music City Center Nearly Complete

Posted: Updated:

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – In just six months one of the newest and largest attractions to downtown to Nashville will be complete.

After nearly three years and an estimated $585 million price tag, construction on the Music City Center is heading down the final stretch.

"We're going to finish six months from today, that is the completion date; which, to bring a building this size in on time is pretty impressive," said Music City Center spokesperson Holly McCall.

From the moment visitors walk in, they will see architecture and art as McCall says, "There is going to be a piece of art that hangs that is about 140 feet long. It's 28 miles of beaded chain. Art installation is going to start in March and that is going to take most of March and April, just to get 77 pieces of art installed."

From the first floor to the seventh, it expected to take 5,000 workers to complete 1.2 million square feet of public space.

"While there has been work going on up here it's clearly the most unfinished part of the building. there is still a lot of work to be put on this top floor," said McCall.

Outside the Grand Ballroom there's a pop out window for the person who loves the Nashville skyline.

"They did have glass floors but mercifully the glass floors were taken out so you're actually standing on concrete, but you are standing out over 5th avenue," said McCall.

Just a few feet away you walk into the Grand Ballroom where wood detail is being placed to help create the feel of sitting inside an acoustic guitar.

"This room is huge. It seats 6,000 people at rounds (tables) of 10."

To feed 6,000 plus people, you need a huge kitchen and the Music City Center has a state of the art kitchen with freezers, ovens, stoves and more.

Before the grand opening of the Music City Center, anyone driving by can see the changes.

Lights are on outside and starting in November landscaping will begin.
