Meeting About New Area Code Proposal Draws Few

Posted: Updated:

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. (AP) - A meeting in Bowling Green to gather public feedback on how to implement a new area code in western Kentucky has drawn only a few people.

The Daily News reported that just eight people attended a forum Monday night and only two spoke.

The PSC said the new area code, 364, is needed by early 2014 and could be applied as an overlay, meaning it would be used in all of western Kentucky in addition to the existing 270 area code. The other option would divide western Kentucky and assign either area code to specific areas.

PSC spokesman Andrew Melnykovych said the agency will use the comments it receives to decide which option to take.
