Fmr. Rutherford Co. Detective Charged With Domestic Assault

Posted: Updated:

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – A former Rutherford County Sheriff's detective, who was involved in a fatal crash three years ago, has been charged with aggravated domestic assault.

Ron Killings was arrested and charged Wednesday afternoon by the Rutherford County Sheriff's Office.

His girlfriend, Stephanie Barrett, told police Killings forced her outside the house away from her children, and then threw her up against the house, pushed her into the garage and repeatedly struck her in the face and choked her.

Barrett told police he was asking her about text messages on her phone, and would hit her if she didn't answer or if he didn't like the answer she gave.

In 2010, Killings was acquitted of reckless homicide in the death of 11-year-old Lakeisha White. He hit her with his car while responding to a call along Bradyville Pike in July 2008.

Earlier this year, a temporary order of protection was granted to his now ex-wife after she claimed she feared for her safety.

Killings no longer works in law enforcement.

Police held him in jail for 12 hours, because of the nature of the charges.
