Woman Found Shot To Death In Car At Storage Facility

Posted: Updated:

MT. JULIET, Tenn. – Police have identified the woman who was found shot to death inside a car at a storage facility in Mt. Juliet early Thursday morning.

The body of 35-year-old Sara A. McPherson, of Mt. Juliet, was found inside a car at the U-Stor-It storage facility on Central Pike, near S. Mt. Juliet Road by an officer on patrol around 1:15 a.m.

"As he got closer he noticed there was someone in the vehicle. He got closer and noticed that there was a dead body," Sgt. Tyler Chandler.

McPherson was found in the driver's seat with at least one gunshot wound, but the exact location was not released. The coroner said it appeared the woman was killed sometime after 10 p.m. Wednesday.

Police are investigating it as a homicide, but said it is not a random killing.  The Lebanon Police Department's Forensic Unit was called in to assist Mt. Juliet Police with the investigation.

Police said McPherson was not an employee of the storage facility, and there was no indication that she was looking at a storage unit.

"This was a rude wake-up call this morning," said U-Stor-It owner Joshua Hawks. "To me it's just like being told that it's happening in your front yard. I mean, you just don't ever expect to wake-up to something like that."

No arrests have been made, but investigators were working on leads.

The green Mitsubishi sedan McPherson was found inside was transported to a secure facility to be processed for evidence.

Investigators are asking anyone who may have had contact with Sara very recently to call the Mt. Juliet Police Department at (615) 754-2550.
