74-Year-Old Clerk Knocked Unconscious During Robbery

CHRISTIAN COUNTY, KY.- A robbery suspect has been taken into custody after knocking a 74-year-old store clerk unconscious while robbing his store.

Police said the robbery occurred at the County Boy Store on Gracey Herndon Road in Hopkinsville just after noon on Wednesday. According to reports a man entered the store and hit store owner, 74-year-old Kenneth Gant Golladay in the head. Gollday was knocked unconscious by the blow.

Golladay said that when he awoke the robbery suspect was gone, along with some money and merchandise. The victim then called 911 and drove himself to Jennie Stuart Medical Center for treatment. He was later transported to Vanderbilt University Medical Center for further treatment.

Police were able to track down the alleged suspect, using Gollday's description, at a local Walmart store. The suspect,William Fields, 27, was taken into custody without incident. He was booked into the Christian County Jail and charged with attempted murder and robbery.
