DICKSON, Tenn.- A man accused of brutally murdering his mother last Christmas has been indicted by a grand jury.
Last year, 79-year-old Jurgen Whitfield called 911, saying he'd found his mother unconscious. Medics rushed her to the hospital, where doctors discovered she'd actually been brutally beaten. She died on Christmas day.
After interviewing her son, and executing a search warrant on their home, Dickson County detectives charged Jurgen with second degree murder. Jurgen Whitfield's attorney said his client has battled severe mental illness all his life.
Whitfield was arrested and taken to the Dickson County Jail where he was being held on a $1 million bond.
