NASHVILLE, Tenn.- A woman who tried to kill her husband in what police called a "failed assassination" has received her sentence.

On Thursday, a Nashville judge sentenced 27-year-old Katherine Holmes to 22 years in prison for the attempted first degree murder of her husband. According to court documents Katherine's estranged husband, Joel Holmes, survived a gunshot wound to the head on August 24, 2011.

Joel Holmes was shot by Barry Hayslip a man Katherine hired to kill her husband. He was arrested shortly after the shooting.

Katherine Holmes turned herself into police after she was indicted by a grand jury on attempted first-degree murder charges in January 2012.
